GUIDELINES For the ASPEN DANCE CONNECTION’S 29th Annual JUIRIED SHOWCASE ELEMENTALS February 2007 |

*COLORADO CHOREOGRAPHERS are invited to submit any style of ORIGINAL or WORLD DANCES.
“Elementals” is two evenings of original dance commissioned by The Aspen Dance Connection and presented at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, CO on February 1 and 2, 2007.
Choreographers are invited to apply and interview for the stipends worth $1,000 and $500 respectively. Two $1,000 stipends will require the Choreographer create and perform a seven to twelve minute original dance piece. The $500 stipend will require the choreographer to create and perform a five to eight minute original dance piece. Financial assistance will also be awarded to all recipients to assist with the cost of costuming the pieces, travel to the Aspen area and lodging while producing and presenting
Rehearsal and technical specifications of each piece will be worked through on Jan. 30 and 31, 2007 in Aspen, CO. Each Choreographer will collaborate with a professional lighting designer in the state-of-the-art Wheeler Opera House. The Choreographer will also be have access to a DVD of the performance and still photos of the piece. The pieces will also qualify to travel to encore performances in other cities throughout Colorado
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 1. Applicants must be a Residents of Colorado.
2. Choreography ideas are to be submitted in written narrative with the application and during phone interview. Interview will address choreographers teaching and performing experience. Those who receive a phone interview will be expected to speak to the idea of “Elementals” and what this term brings to mind for you as an artist and as a dancer.
3. Dances will be either 5 to 8 minutes or 7 to 12 minutes depending on award received.
4. Applicants are encouraged to perfect their dances and must agree that their will be no artistic change in choreography, dancers, music/sound accompaniment, costumes, props, sets or any other fundamental aspect of the piece after artistic review (final review to take place no later than December 20, 2006) unless requested by Artistic Director or Advisory Board Member and written consent by the Director of the Aspen Dance Connection.
5. The Choreographer must be the person to submit their original dance.
6. Choreographers and dancers must agree to attend all press events throughout the performance week and agree to speak via phone for press interviews in the months leading up to the event.
7. Sole ownership of original work will remain that of the Choreographer.
8. Choreographer and dancers must agree to be present in Aspen, CO for all technical rehearsals and performances January 30 through February 2, 2007.
9. The Aspen Dance Connection may use photos or video from this performance to promote the Aspen Dance Connection.
10. Application fee does not include membership fee of individual dancers. All dancers who perform must be members in good standing with Aspen Dance Connection. |
